Re: "model a saved my life" I was an aspiring rap artist trying to turn my life around.

Re: "model a saved my life" Actually, it nearly took my life more than saved it.
But that was in my youth, I can crank start it now. :D |
Re: "model a saved my life" My model A saved my life by causing me to squander my beer, cigarette, and strip joint money on it!

Re: "model a saved my life" I can't say it "saved my life, but it has made it a whole lot more interesting. It seems as though whenever I have found myself in the doldrums, I have bought another Model A Ford (but never more than one at a time). Five total over 50 years. It has taught me the basics of a automobile in its most simple form, patience, certain skills (but none Mastered, yet) and has drawn a lot of attention. It has put smiles on faces of kids and made the old folks happy. Now I'm the old folks, and it has been fun. And, it has brought me to the Ford Barn ! No complaints...

Re: "model a saved my life" "MINERVA," my black '30 coupe saved my life as a great distraction while caring for my dear wife, Pat, for 8 1/2 years with dementia. Pat loved to ride in Minerva up into the Sierra foothills. After getting her into a great care home, I had a bad reaction to some muscle relaxant pills and was a hallucinating, cukoo, nut-cake for 3 1/2 weeks while they tried to get that crap out of my system. Sorta like trying to get rust out of our water jackets.
In and out of reality. Aha! Minerva to the rescue to help me keep my "marbles" and to keep them straight. I would recall staring at her red wheels, or seeing my reflection in the back of her headlight and this would help pull me back to some resemblance of "reality." I vividly remember lots of Wild hallucinations, enough to fill a book, it's title would be, "TO HELL AND BACK BY THE SKIN OF MY FENDER." |
Re: "model a saved my life" Model "A" is a therapy for me, I spending a lot of money working on him, not mentioned that my girlfriend tell me invest the money in repair my department.

Re: "model a saved my life" No matter whats going on in life, i can go to the garage and find something on the car to work on, and that will clear my mind of all problems. And when i'm down, and i go out for a drive, it reminds me of all the great times i had with my grandpa in the car and it picks my spirits back up.

Sometimes I wonder if I'd have turned out any better had I not turned down my full-ride scholarship to U of Mich. Instead, I went to a school that allowed freshmen to have cars AND to which I thought my car could make it. Couldn't imagine life without my Ford. Here I am at my first off-campus housing with a fresh load of clean laundry and food after weekend at home. Rent was $60/mo split four ways, all utilities included! http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...ar-cropped.jpg Steve |

Re: "model a saved my life" I agree the Model A has made my life better. I courted both my wives in it. First wife passed away. One daughter drove it to St Louis at 16 years old. the other to dearborn at 16 years old. The hobby and the Model A Club has kept me busy when I have needed it the most. Great picnics parades and movies with Tom Hanks and parades with Members of Congress, I met Evil Knievil and other fun people weddings and lots of memories. but most importantly I have made friendships with the most wonderful people....... Antique car people.:D

Re: "model a saved my life" I have always told people that my car was my therapy. A welcome respite from the complications of the technology business. I tell people that it takes only 5 minutes to change the carb and the first 2 minutes I spend looking for my 1/2 inch wrench.

Re: "model a saved my life" My life was never in jeapordy..... I enjoy the Model A hobby strictly as a hobby and keep things in perspective. I enjoy a well balanced life. I suspect the folks who are "all consumed" by a hobby, collecting cars, trains, bug collecting etc, have a great void in their lives to fill and those who are in the hobby to make a huge profit doing restorations or selling parts at huge markups really prey on those afflicted folks.

Chief, (my dad) said, Model A's are like dogs, you can't own just ONE! He also said, we are all CHILDREN in OLD skins, why else would we spend $$$$ to build or buy a Model A just to get folks to look at us driving. His test to find out if a person was truthful was to ask him if he was insecure! On romance, Chief said, "Boy meets beautiful babe, and his brain jumps out of HIGH gear and gets stuck in NEUTRAL. I sure miss my Model A mentor,---Bill |
