'31 Radiator Emblem

Hello,

Were the '31 emblems enameled or just painted? I just removed the emblem from my shell. The stainless steel is in lovely condition, but there is absolutely no trace of paint or anything else in the lettering.

Thanks,
Doug

Mine seems to be the same way, painted. May not be original. I/ve repainted it a few times, but doesn't really like to "stick". Waiting for others to respond also.

Mine was definitely original, since it was lightly spot-welded to the shell. I'm also curious if the stainless steel was buffed out to a really smooth finish. Mine has a sort of satin or lightly-brushed appearance, and the recessed letters have exactly the same texture as the surrounding area.

According to the Judging Standards, 1931 emblems were stamped, with either blue or black paint in the recesses.
