Creative? Use of muffler clamp This eBay auction is for a steering column mount for a rat rod I suppose 390347313077. Got a real good chuckle over this one.....

Re: Creative? Use of muffler clamp That's a good one allright!
I wonder what happens the first time you grab the steering wheel to pull yourself into the vehicle? |
Re: Creative? Use of muffler clamp Shesh! I'm not sure why there needs to be a floor mount for a steering column. It is mounted to the frame, and then secured again at the top.
Also, this thing is ugly as sin. Why wouldn't this be a welded/fabricated piece? What a cheap piece of junk. http://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/5/1/7...83660114_o.jpg |
Re: Creative? Use of muffler clamp if you are using a GM column in a street rod then this would work well. Carpet would cover this up.

Re: Creative? Use of muffler clamp Thats not really a rat rod part, while the quality is rather poor the idea and larger originals have been well accepted since the late '80's, almost standard practice.
When it was common to put a late model steering colum in your street rod this was/is the ticket. It gets completly hidden and you must support the lower column since you add in u-joints to adapt steering. For the 1-800 street rod guys this solved a lot of support and angle problems, particularly when a first time builder may not have a welder or the fabrication skills. I wish I had made the originals, there has been a lot of those sold. Wouldn't be the first time a part got re purposed. As for the quality of it, well... I wouldn't put that one in my car. Rat Rods - don't even get me started. |
