BIG MIKE has No More Overheating Problems I'm happy as a Pig in Shiot :) Heres the skinny filled my block uo with Viniger and water let sit for 2 weeks drain it all out, Brown as hell, did several more washes, Installed my Big NEW 1942 ford truck rad (Aluminium) in stalled a NOS 7 blade aluminum fan blade ,(fit like a glove) new hoses etc, just filled with water and no thermos. Ran the motor for 1 hr today in 85 degree weather in the sun , Temp stayed at 126 degree reved it up temp rose to 135 degree then dropped. that blade sucked more in at idle i could feel my cloths being sucked in and blew so much air thru the motor that it barely got hot and Blow that it Did. Is this Ok running to cool? I'm happy Very Happy with the results . Cheers BIG MIKE

Re: BIG MIKE has No More Overheating Problems Mike - 126* sounds a little too cool to me. Putting the thermostats back would keep the engine to a more "normal" operating temperature. It sounds like you absolutely solved your overheating issue. Good luck!

Re: BIG MIKE has No More Overheating Problems Ok maybe I exagerated a bit on the temp i'd say maybe 135 degree , no way near 160 degrees normal operating temp is 180? if running cool what harm will it cause. I only run my vehicle(tank) in late spring till early fall, then it goz to hibernation for the winter.

Don't put ANY stats in until you drive it in a parade or under your normal driving conditions in hot weather. You will find if it burnt oil it will be down to none or very little. People will say sludge will form in the engine when it runs cool but with Castrol 20/50 they state no sludge. I have no "o" sludge in 109,000 miles on one engine running cool the last 70,000 miles. Wait and see how it runs before any changes. I would put in 2 gallons of perminate anti freeze that states it's good for aluminum radiators, a bottle of Barrs heavy duty aluminum sealer and 2 bottles of Purple Ice and keep the radiator FILLED up to the neck. For 60 Hour engine wear tests: At 70*F coolant temp, cyl wear = .008" At 155*F coolant temp, cyl wear = .001" At 210*F coolant temp, cyl wear = .0003" Jim |
Re: BIG MIKE has No More Overheating Problems Thanks GM , I'm just going to put a few bottles of antifreeze in and and sum aluminum sealer in her , its going into winter storage in a month, I have my "other military vehicle" to play with for the rest of the year. Last Thing I need is a good rad Presure cap, I think I see one on Ebay. Thanks Lads for the Advise BIG MIKE

Re: BIG MIKE has No More Overheating Problems Ok today what I did is broke the tracks off Carrier is raised on timber blocks so the rear sprocket is clear , ran the carrier in place going thru all the gears for about an hr, top temp in the sun at 89 degrees with humidity. she ran at 157 degrees, and dropped to 154 at idle. so its getting up thier.
