cups getting ready to assemble my 406 heads and in looking thru my head parts i found some cups. cant find any info in my shop book, so i thought i would ask the experts out there. using a comp cam with corresponding springs, so do i need to use these cups or discard. thanks

Re: cups Those were used in Hi Performance solid lifter cam engines, 427 specificly, others I feel as well. Shims to establish correct spring heigth/tension were inserted under the cups. They were required when putting the 427 tripple springs on Boss 302 heads...so if your cam/lifters/springs are for a 406 Hi-Po then yes. Having said that be sure to check for spring bind at max lift.

Re: cups There were also some small cups used on some Ford engines that were placed on top of the valve stem. May not apply in your case.
