hi everyone, i am looking for a fan shroud for a V8 EAB. does anyone know if there is any after market shops out there that sells these?

The only place I have seen them is at swap meets, post a wanted add on this site, maybe you will get lucky

Had a few pictures than might help...I was thinking of using a truck fan shroud on my 53' Merc....but it would not fit.

I am not aware of any fan shrouds factory made for cars. I have seen a shroud from a 68 small block Fairlane modified to bolt onto an 8BA car radiator and if I would not have know otherwise I would have assumed it was factory.

An 8BA with a clean block and good radiator does not need a fan shroud.

We broke up a 39 dump truck and I got the shroud out of it. I haven't tried to install it in my 39 peeekup as yet. I have an aftermarket radiator installed.

Jim, the shroud works great. I used Speedway # 820-40 which is 20" high and 21" wide. My car is a DeLuxe so your radiator is not the same size. The shroud comes blank so you have to cut out the hole to fit your fan. I think there are 4 different sizes listed in their catalog.

Merc and the others with shroud's would you please report the temperatures before adding the shrouds and after. I put a truck shroud on my 39 P/U years ago plus an industrial 6 bladed fan. It ran temperatures like most flatheads before with the normal problem of getting up in the 200 degree range at prolonged idles on hot days. I ran it at a fast idle for over 2 hours in temperaures of 97+ degrees at a National Ford meet 5 or 6 years ago and it never got to 180. If I raced it up it dropped 4 or 5 degrees. This truck runs along at 170 on 90 plus days with NO thermostats or other restrictions to the coolant flow. With 160 degree stats with 8 holes in the flange of each stat it runs at 185 to 190. It was even higher without the holes. The modern stats that fit the 32 to 48 engines all have small opening ports that restrict the flow of coolant. Larger amount of water such as filling the radiator to the neck, more water flowing through the radiator useing Skips high flow pumps and more air through the through the radiator make for optimum cooling. Increasing any of the above improve cooling. G.M.

For the original EAB V8 question; if original appearance is important, are you aware that they made a different fan assembly for the automatic transmission cars? It looks exactly like the std trans assembly but each of the blades is 1/4" wider and the pulley is 1/2" smaller. It made a noticeable difference on my 50s and they no longer get hot at prolonged idle. . . Chuck

I'm just saying this from my experience. I put an 8BA in my '38 and was no room for a mechanical fan without a lot of machine work that I'm not capable of. I settled on a Cooling Component electric fan with a shroud. My first longer run was on an 85 degree day and running 60-65 the temp would go up to 195, fan would turn on, cool it back to 180 and turn off. All of the panels are in place to direct incoming air through the radiator. My theory is the shroud is blocking airflow. While I would prefer the fan not run at highway speeds, I've reconciled myself to it. This might not be applicable to a mechanical fan, but I just thought I would mention the other side of a shroud.
