1932 Ford Frame Blueprint - Steering Gear Location
 

I am trying to repair a 32 frame that was butchered around the steering gear. Does anyone have a scan of a detailed frame blueprint (not Wescott's) that shows the steering gear location with bolt hole sizes/locations etc.

I had this info at one time, but seemed to have misplaced it...

2 sources to suggest...the first one because you may already have it:
Thacker's '32 Ford-The Deuce, the 1980's one, NOT the recent one, has a Ford sourced frame diagram that is somewhat better than Wescott's. It is stuck way in the back of the book, and bring along a magnifying glass.
Then...DeuceDaddy Don on the HAMB sells a huge, comprehensive frame print...you likely need one for your career of turning deuce junk into gems!

Do you still have the fender holes in the side of the frame or can find where they were? I could trace off a pattern from an original frame and locate from those holes.

Here is a scan of a print I purchased years ago at the SRNats in Louisville. The dimensions shown are the only ones available, although I can tell you that the sector shaft hole is 1 1/4" and the bolt holes are 3/8" X 1/2" slotted. Early frames just had 3/8" holes, they weren't slotted.
The Thacker book (early edition) has the same drawing with the bolt hole location dimensions omitted also. Easiest way to get them would be transfer punches, using a factory dash and column mount for correct location, if factory stock is what you require.

Thanks for the scan. I think I saw one that showed the bolt circle diameter for the 3 bolt holes...but this will help.

I am mocking up a stock 32 dash and column drop, so the transfer punch idea is probably best. I will probably take a tracing from a known original frame, just to be sure.

I am looking for the location of the 4 Front Fender Brace holes on the side of the 32 ford frame. Can you please scan and post the fwd end of your blueprints if these holes are shown. Regds 32chris

Neil,

An additional reference point (from the original frame assembly engineering drawing) is that the center line of the top hole and sector hole in the frame rail is 25 11/16" from the center line of the forward-most rivet head on the side of the frame rail attaching the front cross member. I only have the drawing of the entire assembly which naturally does not show all of the dimensions that the drawing of the side rail itself would have.

Only very late '32 frames have slotted holes, the vast majority just have the three round holes. The more-vertical commercial steering gear was accommodated by the hole locations in the unique commercial sector gear housing (which became obsolete once the slotted holes were adopted.)
