Spokes of Wheels

Today I started to straighten some spokes on one of my rims. I discovered that one of the spokes has the weld cracked at the rim side of the wheel. If I re-weld this spoke will it effect the wheel itself.
Thanks for your time.

Re: Spokes of Wheels

It might. I would drill the rim from the tire side thru to the spoke with a bit 1 size smaller than the spoke diameter. Weld from the tire side and your repair should be invisible from the top. Ideally tig it to keep the heat to a minimum, but any weld will do. The less heat the less likely that spoke will pull the rim off alignment.

Re: Spokes of Wheels

I had to replace a spoke that was missing. I used a rod the same size as the spoke and gas welded it on both ends. Also gas welded a number of other spokes that were off along with some cracks in the inner hub thing. So far so good and it did not effect the wheel. Of course the tire has to be off and I did it before I had them power coated. Also use as little heat as possible as mentioned above. Also my huckster is a driver and not a show car.
