ford carb

37 ford
Looks like it has a Stromberg Carb. It has a 81 on the opposite side of the name. Is that the number to use to order a rebuild kit? Also where to get a carb. kit? Jon

Re: ford carb

thats the right carb for your 37. is it a 60hp? the kit for the 81 is a bit different, the accelerator pump is different and the linkage too. i suggest you download the stromberg carb info and read up on it. it isn't brain surgery but you have to have the right tools and know your way around the strombergs to rebuild them right. if you aren't familiar with them you might want to have it rebuilt by one of the guys on the site that can do it right. good luck.

Re: ford carb

How can I tell if it is a 60 or 85 horsepower engine?

Re: ford carb

the 60hp is small, 17 studs on the head. the 85 is larger, 24 studs. you should have the 60hp and it is a very cool motor but a little underpowered. you can juice it up a bit though and it will be a real conversation piece.

If your '37 has its original engine it would either be a 17 stud 60hp or a 21 stud 85hp. If your engine has 24 studs/cylinder head then someone installed a later engine. If it has the little 60hp I would keep that engine in the car. If the engine is in good condition and runs well it will take you anywhere you need to go at a reasonable speed. Many of those little 60's were pulled and replaced with 85's back in the day. Rich Willim had once told me how he built the little 60's to get 100hp. It's probably covered in his book...The V860 Ford's Little Powerhouse.
