1930 deluxe hood hinge rod retainer question

Hi all I have a question if thats ok. I bought a rear hood hinge rod retainer from one of the repro parts vendors, the chrome/stainless type. Well the finger that clamps over the cowl band does not fit the contour of the cowl band. Is this because I'm using an origonal cowl band and a repro retainer or is the chrome one just not meant for my car or is it a bad repro.I ordered the non chrome one without the finger because the gap is so large it just bugs me....LOL...Thankyou in advance...Dave

It is because it is a poor reproduction piece made off-shore.

As Brent said [pure crap] I have 2 originals ones that 1 came on my 180A and the other on my 170b . Both Briggs bodys. Seems Briggs used them more. The repro's [some of them will pinch your cowlband and but a DENT into it.]I came across a fellow who learned the hard way. After that he had to use 2 flat washers between the screws to build up the part going over the cowlband... Needless to say it looks like shit... Original ones i see going for over $50.00 when seen forsale.
