Low engine speed idling
 

We used to talk about low speed idling and how to obtain very low rpm to where we could see the fan. I don't hear much about that now. It is because the E10 gas or just the times? I know if I reduce my idle speed the car stalls during traffic light braking.

If it is to slow I think the splash oil system might not work well. This is just my opinion. Bill

I don't know Clem...

Mine would idle down to about 150 RPM ( slow enough to count each cylinder fire ), and would do so until it ran out of gas I suppose...

But for driving purposes, I set it to between 300 & 400 rpm.


But, on Sunday, I did a thirty mile run to a picnic, and it were hot outside ( 90 *)... for the first time since I've owned the car, it actually stalled when I pulled-up to a stop-light....

I've also been smelling raw gas, so I think it might be time to check the float-level....

Yes,

Float lever is very critical to not stalling when coming to a stop.
