40 ish" Panel Delivery seats info

5 Attachment(s)
I got this set of front seats in with another set of seats and I "believe" they are from a 40ish panel delivery...they are missing the front support brackets and maybe the rear support braces give a clue?? I am confused on them. As you can see, they are upholstered with modern upholstery BUT I can remove that IF anyone is interested or has a need for a set for a panel delivery IF that is in fact what I have??
1) the folding smaller backed seat, which I thought was the "accessory" passenger seat had the adjuster mounted on it???

2) the lager, metal backed seat (there is a metal back with strengthening ribs in it under the upholstery on the back), non folding, which I thought to be the drivers seat, but NO adjuster on it??

Not sure if that whole set up is backwards?? SO If anyone has original pictures of the seats from a 40-48 panel and or the front mounting brackets? thanks in advance

Robert, I believe you are attempting to sort your '36, correct?
I can tell you what I have, and I will tell you I believe it is all correct. Take that for what it's worth as I have a ton to learn about this car.

Okay, I'd attached two photos of the seat brackets. You will note they are different in regard to the left vs. right seat. Lord only knows why that is. However, the Ford (illustrated) parts books backs that up. The driver side (left) uses the brackets (48-705222) with the "female". These brackets are shorter than the passenger (right) side brackets.
The right seat brackets (48-786354) have the "male" and are a bit longer than the left brackets, perhaps 3/8" or so. These are called out as "special equipment". I understand that to be for the optional seat.

The left seat is adjustable.

Re: 40 ish" Panel Delivery seats info

I just solved my own problem.
The short legs go on the driver seat (adjustable) and are taller than the right seat because there is a track on the left seat.
When the seats are installed, they will be at the same overall height.
The "female" / "male" variation? So, they can't be interchanged.
My excuse is the fact I am German, have a background in mechanical engineering and tool making so of course I over thought this.
The real reason may be ignorance, but I prefer my first inclination.

Thank you very much Michael. Explains a lot.

No cotter pin. There is a circlip on the end of each pin. I actually have a few NOS pins (with part number attached) as well as the parts book illustration that prove these correct.

Would you mind sharing that info??

Thanks again.

Did the passenger seat have a feature that allowed it to fold forward out of the way for loading and entry to the rear from the front door? I have seen that in some vehicles.

Yes Sir, as you can see from the picture the bracket bolted to the floor and "Both" seats had the ability to fold forward and fold on the Sedan Delivery's. The "passenger" seat was an "accessory" seat and NOT standard equipment.

Michael

We live in parallel universes, I know exactly where it is, pass it by 30,000 times, "Until" I need it.....THEN I cannot locate it with radar!!! Hence why NOW I have "3" "O"Lights. Found my first one a month later where I had set it down on the cowl of my Dads Lincoln looking under the hood where it rode around town between the windshield wipers for a month. Bought the third one when I couldn't find the other two. Got it and found the second one!!!

On my '47 tonner panel, the passenger seat folded up and tilted against the dash but the driver side did not. I was very proud of that passenger seat option. The guy I sold the truck to put it in some kind of shed at this dad's place and it's been sitting in there for about 4 years unused. It was one of those vehicles that was more fun to look at than drive. Backing that thing outa parking spaces was just this side of 'no fun at all'. As far as misplacing things, I wish so much I could say I have no idea what you are talking about. Arrrrgh.

Yes, this set I have posted...The drivers side has a taller steel shell , NON folding back to it as you have described in your post. THE most famous statement for Us car guys.....

"I'm gonna put this RIGHT where I know where it is!!!" THEN comes a month long search till you can't find it and buy another one.

That isn't it. The correct pin utilizes a circlip, NOT a pin.

Here are some photos of what I believe to be '42 - '47 panel delivery front seats with the mounting brackets and seat track for the drivers side. These have been purchased for my Sedan Delivery as genuine SD seats are made of unobtainium. The drivers (LH) seat has the sliding track for adjustment. The 'accessory' passengers (RH) seat has no adjustment and is just hinged at the front. Both seat backs tilt forward but only the passenger seat folds completely forward to allow access to the compartment under the front of the rear floor.

In reference to the above pictures in my previous post, can anybody suggest what the seat covering fabric might be called and also maybe know of a source for a similar fabric. It seems to be almost like a kind of coated fabric, like a thin canvas. Certainly nothing like Naugahyde or Vinyl. Thanks for any help :)

Pyroxylin. As you had thought, it was more akin to a "waxed" cloth than a leatherette (aka vinyl).
I do not believe it is available.
