Harman Collins distributor Do you know if there are any spare parts available for the HC distributor with doble coils ?
And also what kind/size should the resistor have (12V) ? Any other important to think about ? Thanks Michael |
Re: Harman Collins distributor There used to be a guy here that got into making parts like the rotor for the Harmon Collins dual coil set up. Dzusfast is his handle but he hasn't posted in a long time. Ballast resistors for 1.5 Ohm coils are generally 1 to 1.5 Ohms. A person can use 3.0-Ohm coils without a ballast on 12-volt systems.

Re: Harman Collins distributor The simple answer is to use Ohm's Law to make sure you have about 4 amps going through the points. Use your multi-meter to do some measurements and chose a ballast resistor of the proper resistance. You should be in the ball park for a good running engine.

Re: Harman Collins distributor No more parts unless you can find some on the auction site, Dzusfast reproduced the rotor and the intermediate cap. The coils determine weather you need a resistor or not. You can still find the outer caps that work and the points and condensers.

Re: Harman Collins distributor Orig ones used Bendix AIR CRAFT magneto points .

Re: Harman Collins distributor You might try Tom Cirello at Cirello Magneto's as he was rebuilding the Harmon-Collins Magnetos for the early flatheads. There might be some parts that interchange between the Mag's and the Dual Coil distributor. He has rebuilt three of the H-C mag's for me over the years with excellent performance.
