“Location of the New Ford Model A Power Plant Troubles Made Easy" chart 4 Attachment(s)
Hi All,
This is a Public Service Announcement (PSA) of sort. Out of curiosity I recently Googled the “Location of the New Ford Model A Power Plant Troubles Made Easy" chart and found several hits. I am the person that reprinted that chart. I am not a dealer just a Model A hobbyist, although I do wholesale the chart to dealers and clubs. I have no problem with dealers, clubs and individuals increasing the price a few dollars to make a reasonable profit however, in my opinion the list price on these sites is way out of line, typically about $30. When I viewed the images of these charts they are all reprints as I reprinted them. One of the listings claims the chart is an “Original” and apparently asking $30, in reality it is one of my reprints. The charts are presently advertised here on the “Model A SWAP MEET” page and in the Snyder’s catalog. We sell the charts for about $10. A little history about the “Location of the New Ford Model A Power Plant Troubles Made Easy" chart. The chart is a quality reprint of the original 1928 chart arranged by Victor Page. As best we can determine there was only 1 design of the chart made for the Model A. Although the illustrations are specific to the 1928, the diagnostic information (text) for the most part applies to all 4 cylinder Ford engines from 28 through 34. Apparently Victor Page did make 3 designs of the chart, one for the Model T, the A, and the V8. We believe it was a supplement to the book that was written by Victor Page for the Model A at the request of Ford. In the days of the Model A it was also in many repair shops. If you have an original copy of Victor Page's "FORD MODEL A CAR" (not a reprint) the chart is advertised in the back (see image below). In today’s times an original poster is a very rare item. I have been involved with Model As since 63. The original that I have, I obtained about 40 years ago and it was the only one that I had seen until that time. Since then I have only seen a couple other original charts at Hershey and they were in very bad condition. During some discussions at the MARC 1997 national membership meeting the subject of the chart came up and I mentioned that I had a very good original copy of the "Location of the New Ford Model A Power Plant Troubles Made Easy" chart. I was asked to bring it as several had heard of it but never had seen the chart. Consequently, I took it to the banquet to show some people, and it created quite a bit of interest. Out of all MARC members at the banquet Roger Kauffman (MARC Technical Chairman at the time) was the only one that said he had seen the chart in the past, although many knew it did exist at one time. As a result I was asked if I could reprint it. Subsequently, as a result of the interest, that it was not available to Model A hobbyists, and that it contains what I believe is a wealth of diagnostic information I decided to bite the bullet and reprint the chart. My goal was to make a quality reprint at a reasonable price available to all Model A hobbyists, thereby the hobbyist could have access not only to the information but a piece of Model A history that they may not have been able to have otherwise. My original copy was in very good condition, the print shop did an excellent job of cleaning it up and repairing it to the extent you could not tell the reprint from the original. I did not want someone in the future trying to pass off my reprint as an original therefore we made two minor changes. The two changes to the chart do not affect the text or images they were made in order to distinguish it from the original, otherwise the chart is as original, i.e., same size (22 x 34 inches), colors, and paper stock. The changes are both near the bottom edge of the chart and involve the deletion of text.. The first change is the deletion of some text following the line “COPTRIGHT 1928” and the second deletion is some text on the same line in the middle of the chart below the “INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE” box as shown by the images of the reprinted chart in those areas. |
Re: “Location of the New Ford Model A Power Plant Troubles Made Easy" chart This is awesome! I like the subtle details that differentiate yours from the original. Now, I need one for my garage wall!

Re: “Location of the New Ford Model A Power Plant Troubles Made Easy" chart When paper road maps for motorists was a big business, the map companies put a lot of money into researching and updating their designs. An unscrupulous printer could copy an original and sell it as their own. The legit companies figured out a way to identify pirated designs: they added non-existent towns on non-existent dead end roads. It didn’t inconvenience their customers because presumably no one would be misdirected.
