49 Texas License plate 1 Attachment(s)
Re-doing my Texas plate for the 49 woodie hotrod. Sprayed plate with spray can Rustoleum. I got a can of black Rustoleum for the letters. Looked at several youtube videos. One guy used a round sponge brush and made it look easy. Of course it wasn't as easy when I tried. So I used the sponge and some q-tips.
This is just my trial run. I've ordered some black onetouch sign painters paint. I'll start over on the trial sun and try the onetouch with the sponge brush. If good enough I'll stop. However if not I'll get some sign painters brushes and try again. So far looks good but not perfect. Next step is to spray with clear. |
Re: 49 Texas License plate I tried to paint some plates years ago without much success. I tried all different types of roller and paint mix. Its very hard to get the paint just exactly the right thickness that it will flow over the edge of the number ever so slightly like an original prison made job.
In the end I just did it by hand with a brush. Came out OK, but not perfect |
Re: 49 Texas License plate Small rubber paint rollers are available at hobby shops. Don't overthink the job, it has been done quickly and easily with rollers, with zero touch-ups required.

When I did this display plate I painted the whole plate red then masked the letters/numbers and cut around the masking with an exacto knife. I then painted the white, when dry I used the exacto knife to peel off the tape.

Re: 49 Texas License plate Mr Texas I think your plate looks really good in the picture. I've seen some that don't
look so good. |
Re: 49 Texas License plate I have done several using a roller from Hobby Lobby. I then clean the edges with turpentine on a Q tip. Then clear coat. This is the method used by the late Gerald Thiele.
