Lincoln V8? We discuss them here?
 

Planning to drag one home this week. Very last thing I need is another project, but I know for sure we'll be wondering how it looks inside. No real history on the engine, or real plan for it, but...............

Forgot to mention it is the giant flathead.

Ls and Ks were eights, as were the '32 KAs. Post-'32 KAs and all KBs were twelves. All great automobiles!

I know them well enough to know that getting parts is not getting easier. The big Lincoln Y blocks are even harder to get parts for.

Supposed to have been a good running engine. 50 some years ago. Got it on my trailer now, thing looks bigger each I glance at it. P

Just after I got out of high school. a couple of the locals decided to put one of these into a '53 Ford. They got it in (including the Hydra-matic transmission), but it put the front end hard on the bump-stiops. I got involved when they couldn't get it running and got it going for them. I don't know what ever happened to it, as I never saw it again. I did hear that it "handled like a safe in a wheelbarrow".

There was a 49 Lincoln a member had in the San Antonio Early Ford V8 Club back in the 90s when I first joined. That car still had the hop up equipment that had been installed when it was new: an intake for two Stromberg carburetors and aluminum high compression heads. The car ran very well. These days H & H lists some hop up parts for the big 337s, but I have no idea if they are in stock or not.
The truck version of the engine is harder to do much with since the bell housing is big and made for a medium duty truck transmission. The oil pan may also be larger, I don't remember. Years ago a company made aluminum conversion bell housings to bolt a 337 to an early Ford transmission. I have seen a handful of these over the last decade, usually still bolted to a 337 removed from an early Continental.
I have heard good things about the 337 having good power, but they are heavy. What are you plans for the engine?

I'll go look around at AACA. Unloaded it yesterday, started pulling it apart.......spread the weight around if nothing else. I've scouted online parts, looks like I better try to check the main bearings first of all.

We have one of those typical cheap HF looking engine stands here. I don't believe this sucker is going on it.

You could take the water pumps off and try two cheap engine stands, one on the bell housing end and one on the front end.

I can't take credit for the idea, someone here on the Barn posted a picture of that kind of setup and I happened to remember it. Isn't the Ford Barn great?

I've got a 337, out of a Lincoln, not a truck. At least I think so. I'm very interested in learning more about what's needed to restore them and hot-rod them. H&H seems to have heads, etc. Egge has other parts.

Has anyone done a build or rebuild on one of these? Should be have our own category?

The 337 engines are not popular the way the regular Ford flatheads are popular. There is little information and little support for them. The few people who have used one and reported on it say good things about them, lots of power for a flathead and a unique look. H and H is the only place for new speed parts. Egge and that auction site have some rebuild parts. Hopefully your main bearings are usable as-is, noone make them anymore. I watched that auction site for a year or more and finally bought one set of 30 under main bearings to have on the shelf in case my engine needs crank grinding.
