What is thread size on a 1931 rear axle that hub bolts to.

Would like to find a die to chase the threads on a 31 rear axle. Over time the threads have been hit and need to chase then with a die. Know where I can purchase a die, thanks.

You don't necessarily want a die. Using a die removes material on a thread that likely was made slightly "oversize" and to match the mating nut.

The threads were originally "rolled" to take advantage of the "grain" of the metal for strength. Cutting the thread removes/interrupts the grain and weakens the thread.

Instead you need to "reform" (press) the thread using a tool made for the purpose. Picture of this tool below. They appear on Ebay on occasion and if you are part of a club or have "contacts" someone may be able to help.

At least three seen on Ebay currently ranging in price from $23 to $49. Search term "antique thread restorer."

This is the correct tool to chase the threads on an axle.
Start at the good threads and work out to the end of the axle.

Yes 5/8-18, but also many back in the day were "fixed"by recutting to 9/16-18 so watch for that :)

If it is still stock, you could use one of these:

Keep in mind that if the tool involves removal of metal - then you probably don't want to use it - my comment above.

There are more modern "thread reforming tools" that are probably available in a cardboard hung "bubble" at your local auto support store. Pictured below.
