Rear window garnish molding

1935 Tudor slant back. I removed the steel garnish molding while installing a new headliner. It was a bit tough to get out, but it finally came. Now I'm trying to put it back in and it acts like it's the wrong size. Is there a special trick to getting the molding back in place?

If you folded the fabric into the opening that may be your problem. Look for lumps in the fabric where it enters the opening. You may have to slit them and remove some fabric to smooth the lumps out.

Thanks. Yeah, we checked that. The fabric is thin, commercial headliner and it is fitting quite well. The garnish is acting like it is friction fitted. Like it is supposed to "snap" into place.

correct! from memory I fitted the bottom of the moulding into place and using the palm of my hand, knocked the top into place: fit the bottom and the top will sort of pivot into place with a few thumps with your palm around the top edges.

That was my next try. Thanks for the help. We glued in the material and let it set. So we'll give the molding another try today.
