Quick change gear set I am in the process of installing a Halibrand 101 on my '30 Tudor. I know for street use a 12/12 set of gears is direct drive as in the original. What would be the best set to use during hill climb?

Re: Quick change gear set Depends on a lot of factors. You'll find that most people have a couple of gear sets for different hills.
How long is the hill? What grade? What altitude is the event at? What rpm do you want to be at, at the top of the hill? What gear do you want to be in at the top of the hill? Will you drive the car home after the event with the hillclimb gear set? Lots of details. |
Re: Quick change gear set Use the practice runs to find out which gear ratio gets you top in the fastest time.

Re: Quick change gear set Chris, All cars are not the same! I have trouble shifting from 1st to 2nd, so use a 6.40:1 final drive and tart in 2nd gear. I also use a 3.05 for highway driving. If you can borrow gears, do so and see what you like.

Re: Quick change gear set You may find that the radius arms don't line up with the torque tube, reverse the arms right to left and it should be fine.
