52 Merc Rear axle

1 Attachment(s)
Partial success on the problem I have with the broken rear axle bearing on the 52 Merc. My plan to pull an axle from the 53 parts car finally worked today as I as able to borrow a slide hammer and extract it without damage. Now needs a clean up before I install it on the 52. New bearing, spacer and seal are currently sitting in a USPS warehouse in San Diego so I don't know when they will get here. And who knows if Canada Post will be on strike by the time it hits the border.
The 53 bearing and axle looks in good usable condition. Wondering if I should try injecting some grease into the bearing before installation?

Seal looked ok so I never did a thing to it. Did drill through the metal side seal of the bearing and injected as much grease as it would hold. Whole thing went together and I've put a few miles on it. So far, so good. Video up now.

Yeah, the side seal of the bearing is what I was talking about. Last one I did, the old bearing side seal was steel, new bearing was a brass side with a small rubber lip at the edge, so you could get grease in if needed. Glad you are on the road again!

Only thing I meant to do, and forgot, was to smear some silicone over the hole I drilled in the seal for grease. Probably not a big deal as there is no dust or other contamination to keep out in that location.
