General Questions about 41 3/4 ton

2 Attachment(s)
been researching every single photo of this truck I can find on the internet to try to figure out what's 'original'... 1. the front grill on some trucks has stainless molding on the leftmost and rightmost vertical groove, right where it meets the fenders. This appears on some trucks, but not all. Any clue what the rationale was? 2. There is remnants of a heater in this truck, only a diffuser assy on the firewall, inside and out. No heater and nothing on the engine side except a nozzle on the firewall where the diffuser sticks out. I see the attached knob on the dash, and wondering if this is the heater knob? would it have been mounted here, and what color would the knob have been? 3. It seems that the other knobs on the dash would be black on farm trucks, but could have been ivory on non-farm trucks. Is this a correct assessment? 4. the fender brace for both front and rear appear to be either welded or screwed to the corner of the fender. Does anyone know what was original? Thanks everyone!

That knob looks like an aftermarket heater switch to me. some have a light bulb in the knob, can you pull the knob off? does it have 3 positions?

5 positions for a hot water heater and 3 for the hot air. does appear as an aftermarket switch to me also.

The original knobs on my 40 Tonner are ivory colored. I suspect that all tonners were sold with ivory or beige colored knobs. According to the 1940 Salesman’s Manual there was no option for black colored dash knobs which leads me to think that if they are black they are an after market product. Regarding the fender braces they were bolted to the fender and the frame. No welds at those connecting points.

1940 had tan knobs, 1941 had black knobs. Your heater switch is aftermarket and had a universal color.
