front parking light bulb removal. how to? my research is giving me differing opinions as to whether or not the entire park light assembly (the removal of two nuts inside the fender) must be removed from the fender in order to remove the bulb.
thus far i've got the single screw out of the top of the assembly and the chrome cover that it held in place is off, but as yet it hasn't proved sufficient to remove the bulb. car's a 1941 deluxe. looking for opinions...as usual. thanks. :) |

joe b and ken ct say that once the top cover is removed that it may be necessary to pry (!) off the glass lens. and someone else says the same thing, and then GNWolohon says that the whole assembly, including the two nuts under the fender, need to come off before the bulb can be released. very conflicting. and i've learned my lessons WRT prying on things that don't come off, hence this thread. :) |
Re: front parking light bulb removal. how to? Perhaps the best way to do this would be to remove the entire assembly from the fender, place it on a workbench and VERY CAREFULLY examine how it is held together. That way it's easier to work on.
It surprises me that Ford would make it so difficult to remove that bulb but, 1941's seem to be a special year for such engineering. |
Re: front parking light bulb removal. how to? On my ‘41 I remove the chrome cover them the glass and lastly the bulb. If your assembly hasn’t been apart in a while you may need to remove it from the fender.

i've found the answer to my question...the mark light housings on my '41 have a screw on the UNDERSIDE that hold the glass lens to the body of the light assembly. IOW the entire marker light assembly must be removed (two 7/8" nuts under the fender) in order to remove the glass and therefore the bulb.
of course, it's possible that there are a number of different marker light assemblies out there... here's a couple pics of my housing. they're pretty old from what i can tell, could be original. the blue arrow shows the position of the retaining screw. there is no getting the lens off without removing that screw and its on the UNDERSIDE of the housing. thanks for all the responses. :) |

Re: front parking light bulb removal. how to? Once you remove the stainless screw from the top of the park light housing the stainless cover will slide back and come away. This will reveal the back of the globe holder.
The globe holder twists out - it is spring loaded and can be stiff if it’s been a while. Once the globe holder is out you have direct access to the globe. |
Re: front parking light bulb removal. how to? I forgot my lights were modified by the previous owner and double filament sockets and bulbs were installed, so I have parking and directional lights.
