Door Catch
 

On my 52 Ford Customline the driver's door won't stay open on its own as right now it needs propped open. Is there a part that I can change, so it catches open when I want it to stay. Thanks....

I'm going from fuzzy memory here, so bear with me...before you get in too deep, take a look at the other door to confirm the action of the mechanism and the problem.

My guess is the door check spring is broken or missing and needs replacement. You will need to remove the armrest, door and window cranks and trim panel to get inside the door and investigate. The spring puts tension on the door check arm which has curved notches and rides against a roller inside the "A" pillar. If I remember correctly, that should fix it, although it's a bit of a pain to do the job.

Thanks for the suggestion mcgarrett. When the weather starts to turn bad, I will do
what you said and see if that helps.
