Taking apart a '40 column shift. At this point I'm trying to take apart a '40 column shift. The problem is at the bottom where the shaft goes into a two part assembly that is attached to the steering column tube. I have the bottom part of the assembly removed, but the top part will not release from the end of the shift tube. There is a pin that drops into a hole in the column and I have lifted the shift tube up the clear the hole, but this piece will not slide off the shift tube. What am I missing here? Thanks for any and all advice.

I’m assuming you’re referring to part number 7318 ? Once it’s lifted offf the column it should slide off.

Very helpful. Now back to the garage and get out the pin. |
