Taking apart a '40 column shift.

At this point I'm trying to take apart a '40 column shift. The problem is at the bottom where the shaft goes into a two part assembly that is attached to the steering column tube. I have the bottom part of the assembly removed, but the top part will not release from the end of the shift tube. There is a pin that drops into a hole in the column and I have lifted the shift tube up the clear the hole, but this piece will not slide off the shift tube. What am I missing here? Thanks for any and all advice.

Maybe this parts picture from Vanpelts will help.

I’m assuming you’re referring to part number 7318 ? Once it’s lifted offf the column it should slide off.

Ken. that's what I thought too, but this will not move off the shifter tube. I've even tried to pry it off. It spins on the shifter tube, but refuses to slide off.

You have removed pin 7337?

No, but does how that affect part #7318 which is the one I'm trying to get off.

Just a thought, did the 7318 separate from the 7348 ?

No, it's still all together. Terry brought up a pin # 7337 which apparently holds everything together. I just called another V-8er and he advised that pin needs to come out. I appreciate everyone's advice and those that posted the diagram.
Very helpful. Now back to the garage and get out the pin.

Pry the 7348 and the 7318 apart.
