Stainless Steel Luggage Rack.

Does anyone know if any of the vendors still carry a stainless steel lugage rack.

I know Snyder's, MAC's and Smith & Jones used to have luggage racks in chrome or S/S. Should have bought one back then

Living close to the Pacific Ocean is not kind to chrome parts.

Thanks.

Master - I believe that somewhere along the line this question was asked here, and Don Snyder offered that the stainless version would have to sell for $600+ (and I recall this was a couple of years ago). He thought the market for that would be very limited and opted to not manufacture it any more.

Thanks Jay-Jay. I remember they were more. But if you look at a chrome front bumper vs a S/S one, there is only $100 difference. A chrome rack is $335 so I don't see a $265 difference in a S/S rack. but you are prbably right.

Wishfull think on my part, I guess.

I have one of those SST luggage racks on my Victoria. It is as beautiful as the day I bought it and I would spend $600.00 for something that looks this good that does not require any maintenance. Many times I rationalize the purchase by of something like this by focusing on the difference between the cheap item and the item that looks great forever! Ed

Thanks Ed. I would spend the money too.Pretty hard to keep my chrome rack looking good, especially when the trunk is mounted. Rusts underneath where you can't get to it.

I have an espresso maker that has a recessed area in the base were the tray for the espresso goes. The base is chrome plated. The recessed area rusted out because of the moisture that was always present there. I replaced the base with a new one.

I used a clear Krylon spray in the recessed area of the new base. So far, no rust. The clear spay is not noticeable and looks exactly like the areas that I did not spray.

Other people who have the same espresso maker have painted that recessed area but I wanted to have keep the chrome look.

Paint the trunk rack metal gloss black. Originally the racks were offered in black or chrome. I've got a black one stashed waiting for the right car. I even scarfed up some of A&L's older re-poped metal (with wood grain painting) "wood" slats.:)

Or consider black powder coat, which I might do if I find a used one that needs refinishing.
