78A pickup info
 

Would like to know what size original bolt/nut were that held the wooden block on the left rear side of the 78-A Narrow bed pickup were? These were the bolts that attached the tail light bracket to. I know they were carriage bolts with3/8 shank and longer than 1-7/8 inches. Also Square nut or Hex nut and or a washer. Thanks email what you have. Thanks, Gary.

Snyders shows the block as A-13471-W. Reports are that the block was made up of "cut-offs" from the bed floor - and dimensions "varied." Two holes. More or less what the Snyder pix shows.

There does not appear to be a correlating part in Ford documentation (below)

Both the "Parts Price List Dec. 20 1932" and "Ford Model A Standard Hardware 1928-1931" are a bit more indefinite on what the actual bolting was. Part of the problem of the Parts Price List was the "carry over" of "A" parts into "B" numbering - which tend to confuse.

Trying to work these two listing together to find a 3/8 carriage type bolt with length exceeding 1-1/2" does not find any correlation.

Snyders avoids the issue by numbering the "bolt kit" A-13470-MB which include the two 3/8" coarse thread carriage bolts (unspecified length) These appear to be "modern" carriage bolts.

I suspect that most restorers use the MB kit, and after installation "cut off" the excess thread.
