26 T engine temperature

Took my 26 roadster out the other day just for a very short drive. I had a little smoke (or I think vapor) coming from the radiator. The levels were fine before and after driving and it wasn’t overloaded either. I was worried that maybe the engine was running too hot. A friend recommended checking the engine temperature with an infrared gun. I got one off Amazon for 15$. I definitely have a radiator leak. When I check the top of the block with the gun it read 295degF. Are these guns accurate? I know that is way hotter than the engine should be. Any thoughts?

Your water should have been boiling at that temp. test your device on things you know to judge the accuracy.

Check the top and bottom of the radiator at the inlet and outlet. You are pointing the temp gun right above the exhaust manifold so ya that temp is going to be high.
