Lower radiator hoses
 

I'm puting a '37 21 stud engine (water pumps in block) in a 32 ford. I recall someone having lower radiator hoses made to put '37 and later engines 32's.
I believe it was someone from a foreign country. England, Australia, Sweden?
Can anyone on the Ford Barn be of any help?

You could try 8BA lower hoses. They are made with sort of a "kink" in them that facilitates fitting. (Be careful, as nowadays, lengths of straight hose are sometimes sold as the specialized pieces.) The "kink" may be just enough to make them fit.

I have a catalog collection. I used to take the old one's home from work when the new ones came out each year. There is a Gates "illustration" catalog showing illustrations of every hose they make and their dimensions. The hoses are divided by the internal size of the hose which makes it easy to find something that will work. I think Dayco also has an illustrated catalog. The other thing I have done is take a piece of flexible tubing and bend to the shape I want, then I take it to the parts store, and they let me go through their hoses until I find one with the correct shape. You might be able to find those hose "illustration" catalogs online.

This is correct - Auliz on the HAMB, Super nice guy. His hoses are top quality as well.

Thanks to all who have replied. I tried to email Auliz per his email address on the Hamb
but for some reason it would not go through. Some of his posts on the HAMB indicated he may not have these hoses made any longer due to the expense. I'm going to send a PM
and see if I he replys back.

Yep. I bought his hoses. Great quality and the price is reasonable.

Let us know if he doesn't. I have a Gates part # that has a similar shape. You will need to cut them since that are part of much longer hose. I just need to find it in my stash.

If you have a good, old timey parts store near you. Make a template with a coat hanger and ask to look at their hoses. That's how I found the Gates hose that I used.

Either way, keep us posted and I should be able to find the part # for you in about a week.

This is what I use for a template to find hoses at the parts store. Got the idea from Hot Rod Primer on the HAMB. It's cooling hose from an air cooled VW

Thanks to all of you for your replies. I sent Auliz a PM a couple of days ago on the HAMB
and did not hear back. This morning I got on his thread on the HAMB as he is building a
5-window with a blown flathead. I asked him about the hoses and he said he had sold out
of the upper hoses a long time ago and has no intention of having anymore made. Also said he's not sure if he has any of the lower hoses left and would have to check. I seem
to remember at one time he would send/sell several sets both upper and lower to someone in California and you could order dirrectly from them. Does anyone recall this?
Would welcome any and all suggestions on radiator hose #'s or what has worked for you.Reply on the Barn or the HAMB. Same user name. As the old saying goes, ya snooze
ya lose.

Thanks a lot for your reply. I'll check their website or call them on the

phone. These look a lot like the ones that Auliz was selling. While looking on the HAMB at

pictures members had posted from the L A Roadster show I saw several cars with hoses

that looked like these. These hoses will probably solve my problem.

I clicked on the link to Sacramento Vintage Ford and the hoses pictured in your reply are for cars w/electric fans. The hose kit for 32's w/stock fans are listed as
"Not available at this time". I'm going to call them to see when/if they will have more. It's possible other old Ford parts suppliers have these same kits. Could also modify upper hoses on a 33/34 kit and make them work. Thanks for all replies.

Most of the parts at the parts stores where I live are foreign made, and the
kids working behind the counter only know what the computer tells them. I will search the
internet for Dayco catalogs as you suggested.

One final reply. According to Sacramento Vintage Ford Parts website, they are sold out of
the following hose kits. 32 w/37-48 engine & stock fan. 33-34 w/37-48 engine, and 35-36
w/37-48 engine. C&G Ford Parts website shows the same kits, (also sold out) only with
different part #'s. So all must be getting these parts from the same source & this is a supply chain issue. Probably China. Sacramento Vintage Ford is also sold out many regular
straight hoses also. I've sent emails to C&G and Sacramento Vintage Ford concerning
future availability but haven't heard back yet.

Looks like the lower hoses from the available kit from Sacramento would work. I think the top hoses are only different (from looking at the cat. pics).

Thats why you have to let them let you behind the counter because the kids at the counter are useless. Take your pre-bent tubing so you can search yourself. The parts stores here have been really good about letting me search their hoses. As far as the quality, you are correct, that can be a problem. If you find hose that will work, you can write the number down and then convert over to a Dayco hose and order it from somebody. Parts quality is going downhill, doesn't seem matter what kind of part you get. I let my hoses on my personal vehicles that I drive go for at least ten-years, I figure there still better then new aftermarket hoses. I get new hoses from the dealer, they cost a fortune, but they last.

When I was working fleet, our parts warehouse switched the brand of hoses. They were so bad they would only last two-years, the upper hoses would get bulges in them, and they'd get soft and spongy, like they had been soaked in oil. I worked there 30-years and those were Gates hoses which were good in the early years but then they changed. We eventually switched warehouses, and they carried Dayco's, those were great hoses. That was 15-years-ago since I retired so I don't know what's a good hose now.

If you have to trim your hoses to fit get a radiator hose cutter, they make nice straight cuts.

I used the end from this #21236 hose for an 8BA to ‘32 radiator. The pic is old so prices from O’reilly’s may have gone up.

I found the hose kit that Sacramento Vintage Ford lists for 1935-36 car w/37-48 engine,
which their website says they are sold out of, on ebay. The pictures in the listing look very
similar to the hose kit for a 32 Ford w/37-48 engine with stock fan. It was the only listing
the seller had that was even car related. The price was only 5 dollars more than Sacramento Vintage Ford's. So I bought them. After engine assembly and installation in car, if they don't work, which I think they will, I'll list them in the parts for sale forums
on the Ford Barn and the HAMB.
