Rear brake

Hi all
Have one rear brake that’s a little off won’t lock on #
3 position on pedal. If I make it lock then release pedal
It does not spin freely until I back it off a few clicks.
Lining is good maybe wacky brake drum?
Tried all lengths on brake rod no luck.
Thx in advance

Re: Rear brake

Either weak springs, worn parts, or gummy mechanism.

Re: Rear brake

The gummy mechanism that Paul talked about is the cam. This is the part that slides back and forth in the cam shaft. It pushes on the rollers on the shoes.

I worked on a car where the cam was rusted solid in the camshaft and nothing would loosen it. I had to buy new parts.

The cam shaft could also be gummy in the backing plate where it rotates.
