Flywheel and PPlate Balance 1 Attachment(s)
I haven’t had one balanced in 15 years it more but to balance them pair do add or remove weight from the pplate, flywheel, or both do balance them?
Somehow this dies not look right to me …. |
Re: Flywheel and PPlate Balance Flywheel should be balanced to zero on its own. Then you could add the pressure plate and balance it.
|
Re: Flywheel and PPlate Balance So is my pplate toast with all that weld on it?
|
Re: Flywheel and PPlate Balance Probably not. Depends on if they added the right amount of weld to balance it. First see if the flywheel is balanced, then bolt on the PP and check balance again.

Re: Flywheel and PPlate Balance Tom, who are you going to have balance it?
|
Re: Flywheel and PPlate Balance I always recommend that the flywheel be zero balanced and then the clutch is added and it is balanced again (which makes the clutch zero balanced). The reason you want the flywheel zero balanced is because you may put a different pressure plate on it in the future - so you need the flywheel to be balanced by itself.

Re: Flywheel and PPlate Balance Obviously, if FW needs resurfacing first of all do that.

Re: Flywheel and PPlate Balance Thanks for all the input - I really do appreciate it ….
I should have mentioned that this a temporary solution as my present 9” clutch setup is shot and I had this lying around, I may be in this falls race of gentlemen (TROG) in NJ with it, I have a new motor in progress (which is woefully behind schedule), and it will have a different clutch setup in it entirely. Again, just trying to use what I have lying around ….. I did call the shop and they did balance the flywheel first (it came out to within race specs according to them) and both the flywheel and pplate are marked for proper alignment. When I get to the new engine assembly I will post updates here. It should have been done a long tine ago but Covid put the whole project on the back burner, I am now taking care of my 101 year old Dad, and just like that I am also 7 years older. Lord willing and the creek don’t rise I’ll get ‘er done … Sidevalve - Randall’s in Chesterfield did the balancing …. |

That's correct, they should both be perfectly balanced. And providing all the holes are perfectly cemetrical, it will probably be ok. I'm a machinist, and that's just what we do. |
Re: Flywheel and PPlate Balance Read post #9. How did that flywheel get balanced and miss the condition of the ring gear??? (Unless the photo is deceiving)
|
Re: Flywheel and PPlate Balance I cannot imagine ANY REPUTABLE SHOP putting weld slobber on a PP like that. Some people wonder why they have clutch chatter, Jeez
