1936 rumble seat access what would be the correct way?
bumper then fender step then open the lid? hop from there and hope you land right? any way i imagine it seems really awkward. getting out? i would probably have to crawl clear & then roll down the rear quarter. there must be a proper sequence in the Owners Manual. edit: did some models have a trunk lid instead of rumble seat? i forgot to investigate that, so while we're here . . . . thanks, sid |
Re: 1936 rumble seat access Sid,
Open the rumble first - hold onto the lid. There should be a step pad on the right taillight extension. Left foot on that pad, right foot on the fender pad, step on to the seat, climb in. Getting out is nearly as much fun - just reverse the process. Ken |
Re: 1936 rumble seat access Yes there were non rumble seat models.
|
Re: 1936 rumble seat access not sure i could remember that sequence or to take my shoes on or off to execute same.
a trunk seems the more practical option; thanks |

Re: 1936 rumble seat access i have a strange premonition that as we pulled away i would see my shoes perfectly aligned.
on the curb! |
Re: 1936 rumble seat access I remember a lot of footprints on the seat of my old '36 3-window.
A more important piece of knowledge would be how best to assist a young lady in a skirt up into the rumble seat. When I had mine, everybody wanted a ride. |

Re: 1936 rumble seat access Jay,
You are not too old to climb aboard. Sadly, you are too old to get out, so I hope you enjoy being in there. Ken |
Re: 1936 rumble seat access Rumble seats are like sailboats to me. It's better if you have a friend who has one.

Re: 1936 rumble seat access Had two rumble seat cars over the years and will not own another. If you go on a tour for two or more days putting your luggage in the back and retrieving it is a huge PITA.
|
Re: 1936 rumble seat access Tom, you are right on the money! You can get your luggage it, but you usually have to crawl in there to get it out. Don't even think of keeping your beer cooer in there!

Re: 1936 rumble seat access When I was traveling, I'd keep a heavy duffel bag of spare parts and tools on the floor of the rumble. Soft side suitcases, laundry bags and everything else on top. and yes, a full size suitcase lays flat on the rumble seat with the lid closed. A breakdown on the road and everything goes to the curb to get to the parts. PITA.

Re: 1936 rumble seat access i would have been around back then to see woman climb into a rumble seat
