Removing Connecting rod from the bottom of the engin

Can a connecting rod be disconnected from the piston from the bottom. My plan it to remove the piston pin without exposing the lower ring on the piston. I want to see if one of the connecting's rods is bent. I did not want to remove the head. Any help would be appreciated. Larry

Why do you think a conn. rod is bent?

If the pan is off, you should be able to turn the CS until you can get a good visual on the rod. Otherwise, you will have to drop the crank if not wanting to pull the cyl head.

Many moons back I had a bent conn rod in my F100, 360. The engine developed a metallic thud sound that got louder over time. The wrist pin brass bushings disintegrated completely and showed up as gold fragments in the oil pan. So took out #8 piston (rod loose on the pin,) then the bend was clearly visible. Replaced the rod and it ran well for 100,000+ more miles.

Best way to check bent rod is to check side clearance. All rods float on the crank pin, just see if they float side to side. Side clearance is only around .010 to .018 on a V8. If it won't float on the crank and the piston pin, its bound up somewhere.

What makes you think a rod is bent?
