Optima 6V Battery Question

I need to order a new 6V optima for my '39 Merc, this one lasted about 7 years. While checking around for prices (EVERYONE is at 249.95) I saw the battery now reads "OPTIMA by Clarios" I'm just curious is this something recent or what? Thanks.

The one problem with Amazon in their packaging. The last (and only) 6v Optima I bought from them came very LOOSELY boxed, and amazingly survived the trip without busting through the box or being damaged just bouncing around. I'll stay with Summit buying Optimas.

Re: Optima 6V Battery Question

Advance Auto Parts can get them too if you don’t want to ship one. Clarios is just the new name/owner of Johnson Controls.

Jegs had a spin the wheel discount promotion— have you tried that?

Re: Optima 6V Battery Question

I got the last one from Batteries Plus. If you order it online to pick up in the store, you get 10% off.

Re: Optima 6V Battery Question

Thanks for the responses guys. Today I received an email discount offer from O'Reilly for 20% off on purchases of $150.00+ BUT for online orders only and delivered to your home BUT shipping was not offered for this item. My local O'Reilly doesn't stock this Optima, one has to call to order, so no online. I called O'Reilly Corporate and explained my situation, and it was suggested that I ask the store manager if they would honor the 20% discount saying it would be at his discretion. I mentioned it would carry some weight if HE called the store just to advise I was coming in. The corporate guy put me on hold while he called my local store,....came back and said the Manager OK'd the purchase, sweet! I thanked Seth, the Corporate guy for saving me $50.00, will thank the local manager tomorrow when I pick up the battery. Apologies for the long story.:)

Re: Optima 6V Battery Question

Optima are expensive but I think in the long run it evens out because they seem to last for a long time. I've had a brand new one sitting on the running board of my Model A for two-years. I haven't charged it, and it still has a full charge. I couldn't let a regular battery sit for two-years; it would be dead and might not take a charge. I had just bought the Optima and then I had a stroke. So far, it's holding its charge waiting for me to install it.

Johnson Controls had a Battery Group for a number of years and Optima became a managed brand following an acquisition. During the 2010s, the Battery Group was sold with the new parent ultimately becoming Clarios.
