Emergency Brake Pawl Issue

I have a Sept ‘28 Tudor that has the Pistol Grip Emergency Brake handle. While restoring the shift tower I tackled the handle and rack and etc.

I purchased a replacement pawl from Snyders. I went to put it on last thing and while it ratchets great pulling back on the lever I can not disengage it. The pawl doesn’t clear the ratchet teeth.

I compared it to the original pawl and it’s clocked slightly different.

This is with the lever pressed all the way down with the new pawl.

This is the old pawl stacked on top of the new one.

Question: do I grind the new pawl to match closer to the original or do I buy a replacement ratchet rack from Snyders and hope it will clear the new pawl?

Yes the old pawl works but the nose of it is gone and it doesn’t hold well.

Other picture for reference.

Re: Emergency Brake Pawl Issue

Also of note none of the E brake handle internal rods offered by anyone are short enough to work in this handle so I have to use the original. Sure it’s not 100% but it’s been blasted and nickel plated (because I can). Can’t help but feel like if the rod was about 1/4”-1/2” longer it would allow the pawl to clear.

That’s what I bought. The AR. Like I said it’s a sept 28 and that shape matches - but it’s “off”

That’s where I’m leaning.

Is the small pin worn?

Looks that way from post one, photo one and photo two.

That's strange, there is no way a reproduction part could be made wrong.

Small pin is worn but even then the whole pawl is clocked incorrectly. You can see the difference when lining up the holes and looking at the pawl shape.

Over the years the handle assembly may have been replaced.

Definitely was not replaced. It's original.

Ground it down. Now it works great.
