40/41 hood

Are the 40 and 41 pickup hoods interchangeable with no modifications ?

Yes, no, and maybe.

The 1940 and 1941 pickup hoods share the same stamping, hood hinge, and hood prop mounting. There are different cutout and mounting hole locations for the differing front trim. The hood latch assembly is different between the 1940 V8 and the 1941 6 cylinder (and must match the grille), I am not sure if the 1941 V8 used the 1940 version or could use either (a 6 cyl hood/grill will work with a V8, a V8 hood/grille not with a 6 cyl).

No. The 41 pickup has a different hood latch setup. The latch is moved further towards the front of the hood and the lower catch for the hood is moved further towards the front of the grille. Also there are cutouts on the undersides of the hood that would prevent you from using the earlier latch setup. To my knowledge the hood on a '41 pickup was used on the 6 cylinder and the V-8. The hood release handle is a "one off handle" for all the 41 pickups.

I’ve got some NOS handles that look like 40 Standard. Do you know any part number for the 41?

The 1941 Sedan Delivery hood handle is "exactly" (by mark one eyeball) the same as 1940 standard, EXCEPT it has a longer tail for the release arm, and appears to be easily cut down to mimic a standard. Check for a "-A" or "-B" one is SD the other PU. I am being lazy as my parts books are in another room and I am recovering from today's (second) knee replacement surgery.

Karl, I don’t consider it lazy after what you have been through. Good luck with the rehab.

Here is a photo. I would use the '40 if you've got a choice. The modifications for '41 removed a lot of structural integrity. The hood that '41 latch came from is completely collapsed due to repeated hard closing. I've tried to give it away, but have no takers.
