Two barrel carb gasker

What is the small hole centerly located behind the two barrel carb gasket on Ford Flathead V-8?Original gasket had this, new one doesn't have one and no provision on the base of carb for one.

Re: Two barrel carb gasker

Prior to the introduction of Chandler Groves and Ford Holley 94's, intake manifolds had a heat riser hole directing heat to the carburetor to prevent frosting. The heat riser continued after the Stromberg carb, but did not exit the manifold itself. With the fuel formulations available today, you would be well advised to reduce the amount of heat (exhaust) at the block before the heat riser, by means of a wheatstalk penny tapped into the block's heat riser holes, one on each bank, and a ⅛" hole drilled through those pennies. (Wheatstalk due to the alloy)
