oil pan spash pan question

In another post we talked about model B oil inter splash pan., some has holes some did not. My question is can any tray be used on a model B engine? Does it have to be the lower tray ? steve

Re: oil pan spash pan question

Lacking the overflow tube that routes excess oil to the dipper tray on the Model A, the B engine needs those holes. Ford actually produced a few Model A engines without the tube but soon resumed use of the tube; not sure if any tubeless engines were put into use in vehicles.

The point of the lower tray and the "shield" at the oil pump shaft was to control "oil vapor" being lost out the oil fill tube.

You no doubt have seen the oil fill cap/topper that has the spiral wound metallic hose designed to route oil vapor "below" the car. This was invented because of the tendency to throw vapor.

As to its applicability, one imagines an A pan should fit a B engine. The lowering of the tray seemingly to decrease the "dip" and therefore agitation of the oil contained in the tray. (Service Bulletins P. 576)

The entry says the lower pan and oil pump shield should be used "together" and not to "mix & match" parts. I also think I see the p. 576 pan has "holes" per the previous discussion

what I am trying to do is put a model a windage tray in a model b engine. I do not have the correct model b windage tray. I do have the correct oil pan and shield.I had a model b engine with a model a early 28-29 pan on it.It does not have the counter balance crank. This was a running engine. steve
