36 ford sedan rear lights not switching off I had an isse a while ago with the lights and with help on here it was fixed. I now have an issue with the rear lights not switching off regardless of the switch position on wheel. I have had all the switch assy out and cleaned and refitted at the base of the steering rod yet still it persists. The wiring is good and I suspect renewed at some point. I was thinking maybe the switch plate itself has a short. I wonder if anyone else has had this issue before I order any parts.

Re: 36 ford sedan rear lights not switching off How about the brake light switch? Have you checked that?
They can stick. |

Thanks nels, yes, seems the brake pedal at rest was the cause. I feel a little stupid now lol. This is the oldest car I have owned by 10 yrs aso finding my way around it. I love the car its beautiful. I now look to see why the pedal falls to low and how to adjust. I dont think it happens whilst driving, just when parked up. |
Re: 36 ford sedan rear lights not switching off If that’s the case, perhaps your brake pedal return spring needs attention.

Yes checked cleaned stop light switch, found the pedal return non existent. I think you are right and there is a spring that isnt doing the job. Any idea on part number and if available still.? many thanks.. I am learning about this beauty everyday with the help of this group |
Re: 36 ford sedan rear lights not switching off seems to be a lot of free play in the pedal lever, I can see on the fulcrum that the pedal rests far forward. The cotter pin is set in the center . Does it need adjusting or is there a spring I cant see or is missing somewhere?.

Re: 36 ford sedan rear lights not switching off update*.
Well after an enjoyable day finding myself around this beautiful car I had been pondering all the answers and something was niggling in my mind. At 2am I decided to check one more thing and released the handbrake. Thus the brake pedal rose to normal position. I had pulled far to heavily on the handbrake causing the issue. I still have learnt a great deal about the car and I appreciate this club more than ever. Thanks guys. |
