pick-up beds & steel search turned up lots of wood related threads, and the Mack Hils site shows a '31 steel bed option, but i wonder if anyone here has one.
Q: are the dividers between the wood planks still used over a strip steel body, or is what i'm seeing a stamped panel and the bolt heads are holding it to the cross sub-structure? truck will see no bovine nor other hooved beasts (scale model tow truck w/ custom utility body) thanks |
Re: pick-up beds & steel Steel bed floor does not have the dividers and at least thru 34 all PU beds had steel floors.

Pictures are of a properly restored '40. Well, not exactly "properly" but rather, over restored. |
Re: pick-up beds & steel Steel floors were used 1931-1950. I assume what the OP stated as a "divider" is what is more commonly called a "rub strip". If so the "rub strips" are stamped into the full floor on the original style. In any case the wood planks are separated by the screws holding the floor or rub strips (and separated about 1/4" to allow air flow which helps prevent rotting).

Re: pick-up beds & steel Was a good Idea. My daily driver deuce pickup has the original steel over wood floor and it's solid as new. 93 years.

Re: pick-up beds & steel but of course i have another question . . . . what is the round access hole for?
replacing gas tank sending unit/ pump? i trying; honest! |
Re: pick-up beds & steel Yes --the access is for getting to the gas tank sending unit.

Re: pick-up beds & steel thanks

Re: pick-up beds & steel Yes .Providing you have the corect tank or replacment. I bought a new tank and the sending unit is nowhere near the access port. Tim

Re: pick-up beds & steel i'm a scale model builder and am here just to garner information (& probably annoy) from the guys who actually know stuff. the internet is fraught with "experts" who seem to be 180 degrees off kilter.
i watched a Hemmings video this morning and was really aghast at the unknowledge the host displayed. |
Re: pick-up beds & steel but i do take your point of aligning access with that which it is accessing!
