Knucklehead drivers
 

I’ve noticed a new trend. You are supposed to turn right from the curb lane, or left from the farthest left lane. Recently I’ve seen a disturbing trend of clowns deciding at the last minute to turn across the adjacent lane of traffic. Happened to me three times in a recent 25 minute trip to my shop, and that was the second or third time with a few weeks. Once was at a stoplight with a dedicated left turn lane, this person was in the far right (two lanes forward and one left) and turned left across the continuation lane and then left. Calm as could be. Anyone else seen that or similar?

I have seen an alarmingly number of people disregarding red lights. I for one wait before I proceed after the light turns green before I will go through the intersection.

Yes, I'm in So Cal, and very normal. Very dangerous in a 95 year old
vehicle. But it's California, what do you expect ?

After driving back and forth across the country 5 times and observing peoples driving habits, I can say that the severity and frequency of bad behavior depends on where you live. But that does not rule out bimbos in any location. Drivers are generally better here in North Carolina but I still see stupid moves like running red lights and stop signs and moving across multiple lanes at the last moment to get to an off ramp.

Driving any vehicle is dangerous. Many people get seriously injured or die each year and keep the lawyers busy. Just be careful and don't assume the idiot in the next car will not do something unexpected.

I see that a lot too, especially in Iowa and Indiana drivers those guys are pretty bad.

Hello, almost lost a nice 1949 Hudson that way on I 271 .They were in passing lane then decided they wanted to take exit ramp .

We used to have driver's education in schools but that is history now.

Yeah, that was a rite of passage for sophomores. I went to my 50th high school reunion a few years ago and one of the women there was gushing about how she remembered me being in the car with her on the behind-the-wheel portion of Driver's Ed, and how much fun we had. I remembered her vaguely from school but didn't remember Driver's Ed with her. I didn't let on that she was not apparently as memorable to me as I was to her. Another missed opportunity from my youth, I guess.

It seems like during, and now after the Pandemic a lot of people decided to start driving like maniacs. Sadly, I think this has become a permanent fixture within our society now.

We have to take drivers ed here in N.H. to get a first license.It used to be if you waited until you were 18 you didn't have to take it.It was available through our school,in 1972 it cost me $20.Our math teacher did the whole thing,both classroom and driving.There are some driving schools around,but I don't think the public school does it anymore.When the math teacher retired in the late 90's nobody wanted to step into the job for what he had been being paid.ZERO.It wasn't until then that I found he had been volunteering his services for over 30 years.He told me that in the 60's,70's,and most of the 80's the kids already knew how to drive.Mostly he had to break them(us)of bad habits.From about 1990 on up he has actually had to teach kids how to drive.A friend has a very successful driving school,he has one hard and fast rule,phones go in the trunk.

If young modern drivers are addicted to their cell phones and their state has legalized marijuana, What could possible go wrong ?

Our local Ford dealer would do a lease on a new car for our school district program each year in the little Kansas town where I grew up. He likely wrote that off with the district paying the insurance. It was good advertising for them anyway. It was usually one of the coaches that had to instruct the students. We never had a crash that I'm aware of. Most farm kids already knew how to drive but it was a formal requirement at the time.

Those times have been gone for decades now. After the owners of the dealership died or retired, the Ford dealer was closed. So much for progress.

Yep, around here they need to teach which side is passing lane and which one is cruising. We didn't see a lot of dumb stunts like cutting across 3 lanes to turn, etc until this area started getting built up and busier. Now when I go somewhere I usually take a back road to keep away from the crazies!

That exact scenario happened to me recently. on freeway at 70+ and WHOOSH here comes a 'something' suddenly by me in far side of freeway passing lane and then cut right in front of me. narrowly missing me by inches, sure he was going over 95! and cut to the R across all lanes in front of traffic in the other lanes! just like that!!! guess someone inside said, 'hey, that's our exit!...'

I could not take my eyes off the offending vehicle. It straighten out its cut across the lanes and began to wobble. the wobble got worse and suddenly the vehicle (SUV) rolled over and then flipped endo's couple times... in a malay of dust, gravel and car parts flying off... :eek:

I did not stop.....too busy counting my Blessings!!

Here in Mass., most accidents seem to be poor decisions at a too high of a speed on the highways. The side roads have crack ups too, but keep in mind, our roads are paved-over cow paths from the 1700's combined with a high population of drivers of all ages. I try my best at defensive driving at a reasonable, legal speed.
