spare tire fender well

in all candor, i didn't do a search since i don't know the correct nomenclature.

Q: were/ are the depression in the front fenders intended for spare tires ever used for alternate storage?

for some reason i remember a 1934 pickup with the passenger side spare tire "well" converted to a tool storage box with hinged lid.

i guess if it was a common adaptation, i wouldn't have to ask.

thanks

Re: spare tire fender well

The welled front fenders on Fords of the period were not designed to carry the weight of the spare tire and wheel. Their weigh was borne by the heavy brackets attached to the chassis frame. . The design of those does not lend itself to supporting the weight of other uses.
