Bracket on firewall 2 Attachment(s)
What is this bracket on the firewall just above the steering column cutout, don't know if I need it or should remove it and fill the hole. Also, my car is titled as a '29 but the date stamped on the firewall just above the seam for the gas tank is 6/18/28, engine serial #makes that as April of '29, so I may have a mixture of different cars.
Current build on my chassis, ran the engine, sounds pretty good, drove down my driveway sitting on the home depot bucket, had to use a light switch for my ignition as I don't have a proper switch yet. going to install shields on each side of oil pan next. Good times. |
Re: Bracket on firewall I believe that is a bracket for the oil can that was on some vehicles

Re: Bracket on firewall Looks like something that's been added along the way.

Re: Bracket on firewall A bucket seat!

Re: Bracket on firewall I've not really found anything definitive on this bracket/feedthrough. Will leave it for now, can always weld up the hole if need be. Drive on. thanx.

Re: Bracket on firewall Some Model T's had a brass plated "Ford" in raised letters on a oil can. Quite handy to have but cheapo Henry Xed it
|
Re: Bracket on firewall It doesn't look like any kind of oil can holder I've ever seen and definitely not original Model A. What's on the back side of it - i.e. what are the 4 tabs holding in place? Resembles the remains of something electrical to me. Don't loose any sleep over removing it and welding up the holes!!

Re: Bracket on firewall You've checked the engine number and firewall date, have you checked for a number stamped on the frame? Do you have a title and if so does it match anything else?
|
Re: Bracket on firewall Frame s/n is long gone to corrosion, that was a disappointment. I have been wondering if it is a feedthrough fitting for vacuum wiper line, but after looking at the S/B the vacumm line routes near the fuel line passenger side. Long story short, I'll leave it, add it to another "A" mystery. If it bothers me enough I'll weld it up. Thanx for the inputs and ideas, wish my car could talk!!

Re: Bracket on firewall Possibly a "part" of an old battery box assembly? Or, perhaps part of an old "Up-starter".
There were many companies that sold the parts to move the battery up under the hood on Model A's & other cars. |
