Noisy pickup
 

My 28 cpu has a lot of wind noise coming from the from windscreen area.
I took the visor off ,but it made no difference whatsoever ever.
I think the noise comes from up near the top of the flat panel above the screen.
I use ear plugs when driving any distance other wise I would go deaf.
Would any one have a pickup and fixed this problem.

Is the rubber seal in place across the top of the windshield frame? Without that, the wind will go past the top of the windshield and enter the passenger compartment. That strip of rubber is a bear to install in closed cars, especially if the visor is in place. The windshield frame has to be lowered a bit in order to put the rubber strip between it and the upper metal panel. That means backing out the numerous screws holding the w/s frame to the wooden header. No fun. Are you a contortionist??? It would help if you were. I don't know if the repo rubber strip is incorrectly made, but I dread installing it whenever I encounter a closed car body.

I have an open cab pickup and for 11 years I drove it with the top on and didn't realize how noisy it was once I took the top off I drive in almost dead silence it's amazing the difference that air makes!!!

I just turn my hearing aids off. Already deaf. Makes for a really quiet car.

I will look at the screen and see if there is one installed,
But I think not.
I will be away for a dew days but will take out the windscreen and see when I get back.

If you put the windshield up 90 degrees to the body, it can be "slid" out to either side.

You're separating the two halves of the "hinge" in so doing.

A similar effect would be to unscrew the hinge - but I've found sliding out is less invasive and certainly a lot less work.

I think Ford actually painted and assembled the windshield this way. The stationary part was painted green (or whatever) along with the body color, and the windshield frame and it's half of the hinge was black.

Putting the rubber in it's "slot" is a challenge and not necessarily something you want to do in place (were it even possible.) I remember putting a layer of plastic sheeting down on my mother's living room rug, laying the windshield face down, and then inserting the rubber bulb with application of "Palmolive Dish Soap" and water to help the slide. IIRC, if you "pull" on the end of the rubber while "pushing" the rubber into the slot yielded the best effect. (just pushing compresses the rubber and just pulling "stretches" and possibly breaks the rubber.) You want to go a little "past" the windshield slot, and then by pulling on the exposed flap "back up" from left or right sides to put a little "compression" into the center of the strip - lest it "rebound" (relax) in the sun and end up "off-center."

IIRC, Rick Freeman (I'm showing my age here) describes and pictures the rubber insertion technique much as I have relayed it in his "Model A Shop Manual" Blue book.
