58-62 292 factory air conditioning question
 

Hi y'all!
I just recently joined this forum and I've already found tons of info for my 61 Country Sedan that I've been needing. The only thing I cannot manage to find information about ANYWHERE :confused: on the internet is pictures or information about how the 58-62 292 factory AC compressor bolts to the engine and how the pulleys are laid out.

Would any of you guys be willing to snap a picture of your AC 292s, albeit a pretty rare option? :)

I'm able to source literally every part for AC except for the compressor bracket, but I reckon I could probably fab up something that looks identical with some pictures. I'm also not sure which version of the two row pulleys to buy, as there are quite a few variations. Also, yes, I know that vintage air would be much more convenient, but I'd love to make use of a factory setup.

Here ya go. This may help you.
Apparently there were two AC systems used in 61. One was built into the car on the assembly line and the other was a much simpler, dealer installed system.
I installed a lot of aftermarket systems in various makes of cars in the late sixties. Usually we ordered the evap, the condenser, drier, and compressor tubing as one kit, and the compressor, clutch, and front engine pulley, and compressor mount as another. The clutch and front pulley diameters were sized to the cubic inch of the compressor to keep the suction pressure on the positive size.
There were a group of companies building AC kits and another group building mount kits.
I worked for Thermo King and installed our AC systems and we ordered our mount kits from some company in Texas I have long since forgotten the name of.
Any mount you may find for a Y block should work with a Tecumseh or Eaton compressor.

I'll see if I can find any further information on pulley diameter to compressor displacement. Sadly it looks like that diagram is meant for an FE rather than a y-block, which I think all the parts and accessories books do. Although, I don't reckon the average Ford buyer was pairing one of the most expensive options with the base v8 so it makes sense that they don't make a diagram for it.

Hopefully Kultulz will chime in, he seems to have all the old manuals and info.

But the”restoration” side of these guys may also be able to help out along the way. I’ve used their classic fit system, and while I have some comments about that, it’s not in regards to what you’re doing.

Couple of pics of the compressor mount for a 292. The crank pully had three shives, a somewhat rare animal. The compressor and generator were all two shives. Hope this answers/helps you.

Man, Ford really made some strange designs to make AC work on those y-blocks. I'm hoping the bracket you shared is for an earlier iteration, cause it would be a lot to track down double and triple shive pulleys for everything! I think later brackets are above the power steering to accommodate a horizontally mounted York or Tecumseh compressor.

That was on a 57 300 I parted (car was broken in the middle). It folded when I jacked it up on the front cross member. A 57 500 I purchased with factory air had the exact same set up. The FE mounts as shown stay pretty much the same for most of the engine lines. No idea if the later 292 F100s (up to 64) had the same as setup as the 57s.
