Install larger valves, turn down the flywheel to receive V8 clutch, Deck the block and balance the assembly. This is a model a 4 banger block

Can I make a suggestion? IMHO you really need to find a machine shop that specializes in vintage engines (-in other words that is all they do), ...and more specifically ones that specialize in Model-A/B engines. If all they are doing is what you have suggested above, then box or palletize the rotating assembly and the block and ship it to whatever shop you find.

Please vet the shop you choose carefully. I had not so good experiences with two different shops. Talk to other old car guys in your area and see who they use. I wasted almost two years trying to get an engine block ready to build. Finally went to swap meet and talked to some old car guys, one was a Studebaker collector. Turned out I had a high quality shop not twenty minutes away hidden at the end of a gravel road. He fixed the messes the other shops had made and would actually answer my calls.

Mr. Pennington, you make a very valid point. I will openly and transparently admit that I am one of your "not so good experiences" and for that I will apologize yet again. Your unfortunate experiences came in a difficult time in my life with multiple Vendor supply issues, and as someone who had just had his spouse and business partner pass away. As I explained then, -and again now, I tried to make it right by you and to your satisfaction. If you feel you need me to do something else to compensate you or make it right, please reach out to me privately and I will do my best to meet your wishes.

As for everyone else regarding 'vetting', I think if we are all honest, we all have regrets in our life and wish we could have do-overs. Unfortunately that is not reality at times. For me personally, now that time has passed and I have been able to regroup, our product is back to what it was prior to your unfortunate experiences. No one is perfect, and no shop does everything perfectly every time. It has been my experiences in life that Vetting often does not provide someone with all the right answers nor does it let all of the relevant circumstances be known. In my nearly 30 years of business, many things have changed drastically. IMHO, one of the worst things to have influenced this society as a whole is the online Review system. Consumers no longer do their due-diligence, -nor take responsibility for their misguided decisions mainly because they do not know how to 'Vet'. Additionally, I think that many would agree that Consumers as a whole rarely give any type of positive online reviews when business transactions go to their satisfaction however when mistakes happen or difficulties arise in that business dealing, often times truths are unfairly skewed and retaliation is attempted by the Consumer while hiding behind a computer monitor or phone screen. Again, when I first started in this business, things were done on a handshake, businesses practiced the motto of 'The Customer is always Right', no deposits were needed, and when disagreements surfaced, both parties worked it out privately amongst themselves. So I circle back, ...it would seem most Consumers have no idea how to properly Vet nor do they do they know how to do their own research other than to read an online review and form their opinion.




I am unsure of specifically what you are asking?

Do I know of a reputable & qualified machine shop in the Jacksonville area? Unfortunately I cannot be of help there.

Do I know of experienced Model-A machine shops elsewhere? Yes, there are many.
