Re: RR crossing I hate those crossings. With my wife, we were flying low on a back road once, hit a crossing like that, only it was like a radical speed bump. Got airborne all four wheels. Couple miles later, on a left turn, my passenger side rear axle gives way. Took 36 hours to replace the axle and move on. Had the tools, best tool was a V8 Roster (Don't leave home without it), how I got the replacement axle. Nice part was I got the Touring Class 1st place as well as the Hard Luck Trophy at the Central National EV8 Meet! As I recall, that was Kansas City. Someone tell me the year? My memory ain't what it used to be.

Re: RR crossing If one hit them they would know. Matter of fact, if any train hit them they would know.

Re: RR crossing Why is the RR crossing sign facing the tracks?

Re: RR crossing The sign is facing the on-coming traffic. The road appears to be parallel to the tracks and takes a "Z" turn to get over to the other side. The telephone pole on the other side of the tracks to the left of the car looks like it has the same sign facing the other way. I hate this type of intersection as the driver is practically blind to trains coming in the same direction. There are a couple of these type of grade crossings in West Virginia and there is one even worse where the tracks are about 5 feet above the level of the road, so you have a sharp rise on the sharp turn and can't see anything until you are in the middle of the tracks.
