Re: Octo A I can understand the extra rear set of added wheels to support heavy weights in the bed and to give added turning power and traction through the drivers, but why the additional front pair? What purpose would they serve? Stability? Wouldn't they be a hinderance going around curves?

Re: Octo A I guess it's a 4-4-0

Re: Octo A I'm wondering what tyre pressure they run!

Re: Octo A Locomotives have 4 wheels on the front truck so that it will follow curves in the railway.

Re: Octo A Okay, what do they do when a train is coming? That can't drive off of the tracks, I don't think.

Re: Octo A Looks like it might be an OctoAA !!

Re: Octo A The service cars followed a schedule like any locomotive. They would get off on a side track when a train was coming. The switches were manually operated. Just get your assistant to throw the switch to the side track and then switch it back for the train.
Is an octo AA a very high note? I know nothing about music notation. |
Re: Octo A I don't know about musical notes, but was observing that if the fourth axle is driving the third then it looks to me like it might be a longer AA wheelbase vehicle!
