Re: Reason or just for looks #2 Copper lines can work harden from vibration. The coils act like a shock absorber. The coiling in the picture is a bit excessive, but that is one of the reasons its done.

Re: Reason or just for looks #2 Actually, probably all of the above, but I still say "cooling" because you don't need that many coils to dampen vibration. A lot of applications (including some very early automobiles) use "cooling coils" instead of radiators.

Re: Reason or just for looks #2 Speeds up the fuel entering the carb thus acting like a supercharging effect :D

Re: Reason or just for looks #2 I agree - once the engine get up to temp it will heat all those coils.

Re: Reason or just for looks #2 The fan should keep a steady flow of air over the coils. Did you ever think about why automatic transmission coolers are in a lower radiator tank in a car with 195° thermostats? Cool is relative.
Plus, I never said it would work (but it probably does), just what I thought it was for. |
Re: Reason or just for looks #2 I am wondering if all 3 coils come off a common fuel log?
|
Re: Reason or just for looks #2 It's gotta work better then the clothes pins I've seen so often on the fuel lines to the carbi I did the coils like that out of new brake line once for my oil lines to and from the filtor for cooling . I never new if it worked or helped. Tim
