32 Tudor door latch/ window channel problem (fouling).
 

Hello. On my 32 sedan The two channels that support the rear window channels in the front doors were broken. I repaired them and now I have fitted them I have a problem. The door latch fouls the channel when I try and open the doors. One fouls so bad I can't open the door. The part that fouls is the striker and the area that fouls is arrowed in the picture. It must be said the area is very congested and Ford seemed to have struggled with this judging how the channel is cut away to such a degree it is seriously weakened in this area.
Is this a known problem? Does anyone have any helpful tips to get around this?

Hard to show but this shows the relationship when in situ. The striker hits the back of the channel.

What did you use for channel? What size is the channel

The channels: One is stock but repaired where it had broken in two (lower picture) The other is stock on the bottom with a new top fabricated. Both are pretty straight.

I worked out what the problem was. I had repaired the strikers by building them up with weld. I had made them too long. The result was they had to be withdrawn further to release the door. The extra travel was causing the interference with the channels.

I cut down the strikers to a more reasonable length. That did the trick.
