Large hex nut Found a large hex (gland) nut and wonder if it is used somewhere on the Model A Ford or T.
Course thread 1 3/16 id, 1 3/4 od. Recessed slightly on one side. Can’t locate it in Snyder catalog. Looks very old. Any ideas? |
Re: Large hex nut A picture would help. Could it be for the inside sediment bowl nut?

Something like this? A-4634

Re: Large hex nut Maybe the nut used on the sediment bowl that secures it to the inside of the firewall?

Re: Large hex nut Castle nut used to hold the clutch-pac to the transmission input shaft on the early Multi-plate clutch?

Re: Large hex nut The original (not the flimsy serrated repo) sediment bowl/bulb nut does have a recess on one side to go over the rounded end of the threaded "nipple" extending through the firewall to secure it better. A photo with the nut lying next to an identifiable Model A part would provide scale to judge its relative size. But I'm pretty sure this is a sediment bulb nut, given the unique recess on one side only. Why else would that recess be there on such a large nut?

That nut is 1 1/4" OD. |
Re: Large hex nut Would post a picture but I can’t find a way to attach a photo that I did upload in the album section. Doesn’t seem user friendly.
I looked at the old style sediment bowl hex nut inside the car and it’s way too small. All others shown in the Snyder Catalog are much smaller. Sorry that I led y’all on a wild goose chase. Thanks to all for your posts! |

Re: Large hex nut Bob C, thanks for getting the picture up for me. I found the nut when going thru a tray of nuts and washers. Thought it might be Model A or T related. By close measure it appears to be 1 1/4 inch id. So it could be pipe related — also a course thread.
But it did look kind of Model A era to me. |

Yes it could be a pipe lock nut. https://www.mcmaster.com/4638K616/
